Since tourism arrived in jaipur(also known the pink city), the elephants of the city were used to entertain and earn money for their owners. Mostly the elephants in jaipur were used to taxi tourists from the centre to fort amber, one of jaipurs most impressive tourist sites. This walk was long hot, dusty, tiring and very dangerous, not only to the elephants but also to the tourists riding them. The shadow of these incredible animals, weren’t concerned about their health or safety and so had no inclination to help. Volunteers on this project will have an incredible time interacting with the elephants and their handlers, helping them to clean, feed, train, walk, massage and play with these amazing beasts. In addition to the work with the elephants volunteers will help with general maintenance of the site, prepare the housing areas the meals, cleaning and so on. The elephant handlers work 12-14 hours each day to care for their elephants and so are desperate for help and assistance.
This is real hands on project that will have you up close and personal with the elephants each and every day. Volunteers are accompanied each day by a dedicated project co-ordinator. The work here is Monday to Friday from…………and forat least……… transport provided to and from the elephant village the rest of the day and weekends is your free time to explore this magical and very beautiful city.

Doing a volunteer project with animals in India is special. Every year many volunteers come to India for social projects. Elephant Sanctuary project in India made my trip here rewarding and fun with cultural shock, “ says Jessica Consoli from Switzerland our past volunteer.” Read Our –Volunteers Stories & Reviews about the Program.
The local mahouts are working with elephants to take care of them. There is a project coordinator with volunteers at theElephant Camp site which helps volunteers and guides them with work & also translates if volunteers have any questions for the mahouts about the life of elephants.
We expect volunteers to not act as if they are here as tourists, they must do the work they are here to do. They need to understand that they come for work and need to live like the people here live, respect the culture and get involved with all that is happening in India.
